Week ending 28th June, results & report Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

Ravensdale Lodge held the last of their five qualifiers for the RDS Dublin Horse Show 2015 on Saturday 27th June when the centre played host to the RDS amateur qualifier. A large entry of 145 amateur riders ensured there would be a highly competitive scrap for the eight remaining places for the Dublin Horse Show in early August. There were mixed emotions along with tears of joy and regret as the three rounds progressed on the day. Many combinations had an early trip home as they incurred penalties in the first round on the Charles Hanley designed course. For the others it was an anxious wait to see if they would make it through the second round and into the jump off against the clock that would ultimately determine the eight riders who would make it through to Dublin. At the end of a long day eight relieved riders booked their ticket for Dublin while those who had come so agonisingly close after three rounds just had to come to terms with having to wait another twelve months for the opportunity to try again. Full results from this and other weekly competitions at Ravensdale Lodge can be viewed in the results section.

Competitions continue this week at Ravensdale Lodge with a few additions and subtractions from the usual weekly schedule. There will no SJI registered show jumping on Wednesday 1st July due to RDS qualifiers on the same day. This run of shows resumes Wednesday 8th July to 29th July where the six modified horse classes from 80cm to 1.30m have a start time of 11am followed by the usual 128cm, 138cm & 148cm pony classes at 5.30pm. The horse & pony training league continues on Friday 3rd July from 5.30pm with the usual classes from X poles to 1.10m. Arena eventing continues on Saturday afternoon from 2pm for the 70cm class which is followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. Finally for the week, Ravensdale Lodge will host their SJI registered annual mid-summer Mini Grand Prix Show on Sunday 5th July. This horse show is set to be held in the full (100m x 40m) outdoor all-weather fibre sand arena which will be watered in advance of this show if necessary. There is a scheduled start time of 9.30am for the six classes from 90cm to the Ravensdale Lodge 1.35m Mini Grand Prix and good news for all foodies as Siobhan Cousins will be on site with her Gourmet Burger Bar to provide onsite catering on the day. It will then be the turn for leisure riders to have their own “Mini Grand Prix” the following week on Sunday 12th July as the next instalment of Ravensdale Lodge’s “Bumper” bank holiday shows takes place in the same arena. This show has a start time of 11am for the seven timed classes which are open to both horses and ponies and run from X poles to 1.10m. Buchanan did not disappoint in the feature class which had an entry of 30 combinations, 9 of which made it through the first round to go into the jump off which was won by 2002 World Show Jumping Champion Dermott Lennon with Vampire, a course specialist and previous winner of the 2013 Autumn Grand Prix at Ravensdale Lodge. Lennon, who squeezes in his visit to Ravensdale Lodge before flying out to an invitational event in Shanghai later in the week was last to go in the jump off with Dean Rogan’s scintillating time of 36.84 seconds to beat. Vampire once again answered all the calls from his rider, making every turn and galloping down to the last fence in four strides taking out two strides to stop the clock on 35.64 seconds, over a second in hand on Rogan who finished second with Falco Van Speveld. Sven Hadley signed off on a lucrative weekend by finishing third in the GP with Quanbell, Daniel Coyle was fourth with Linzi Johnston’s mare Uptown Girl, this pairing having won the feature Spring Tour Grand Prix on three successive occasions from 2012. Fifth place went to the ever competitive John Floody with Mise Le Meas, Floody had the unlucky draw of first to go in the jump off and put in a steady clear round time of 38.66 seconds. Captain Michael Kelly, the winner of this class in 2011 was sixth on board the Minister Of Defences’ Donganstown Boy while Mark Kinsella with DMS Impulse was seventh, Conan Wright was eight on board the Bridge House Stud owned Riverland Roi.
Week ending 9th May, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

Competitions ping ponged between the outdoor and indoor arenas at Ravensdale Lodge as the weather seesawed between sunshine and showers. The recent start of the spring / summer show season has been dogged by the fluctuating weather systems that have passed over the country over the past few weeks. While it may have caused show organisers at Ravensdale Lodge headaches it has certainly been service as usual for competitors as shows moved to the indoor arena whenever necessary throughout the week. Competitions started off outside on Wednesday with the SJI registered horse league which enjoyed a relative dry & sunny day where riders could escape the showers by warming up in the indoor warm up arena at Ravensdale. Conditions on Friday left organisers no option but to run the horse & pony training league indoors as riders stayed high and dry on what was a horrible day all round with many competitions being cancelled or postponed elsewhere around the country. Saturdays forecast was much better so the outdoor arena was used to great effect for arena eventing as competitors enjoyed a taste of warm sunshine for the duration of the afternoon. Competitions continue this week with SJI registered show jumping for horses on Wednesday from 11am when there are six modified classes from 80cm to 1.30m. Week three of the horse & pony training league continues on Friday evening from 5.30pm with seven classes from X poles to 1.10m. Saturday afternoon sees arena eventing continue at Ravensdale Lodge from 2pm for the 70cm class which will be followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. Competitors can get a full run down of forthcoming shows or events at Ravensdale Lodge by logging on to the centres website or facebook page.

The swallows have arrived at Ravensdale Lodge signalling the time to move events out to the super outdoor facilities at the centre for the summer months. With one week left to run on the winter / spring indoor season, this week of league finals will be followed quickly by the move outdoors and the commencement of the spring / summer season of shows and events at Ravensdale Lodge. But first there is the no small matter of 20 individual class and league finals over the coming week with SJI registered horse league final getting the ball rolling on Thursday. This well supported league will have six class finals from 80cm to 1.30m and has a scheduled start time of 11am. The final of the indoor horse & pony training league takes place on Friday evening from 5.30pm and the seven classes from X poles to 1.10m will be decided against the clock. The final of the indoor arena eventing league has been rescheduled to Saturday 2nd May so combinations will have to endure another week of nail biting tension before they get their opportunity to jump against the clock in the three classes. The indoor dressage league which has been running at the centre concludes on Sunday with the final of all classes up for decision. This show has a start time of 2pm and all weekly classes can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website. Entries for indoor dressage should be registered in the office by no later than 9am on the Friday before competition. Riders are reminded that anyone can compete in any of the finals at the centre and classes are open to all however only qualified combinations will be eligible for prizes in the final and combinations are requested to check the relevant league tables to see if they are qualified.

No sooner than one run of shows ends than another one starts and there is no time to relax as competitions recommence in under a week on Wednesday 29th April when SJI registered jumping not only moves outdoor but also makes its summer transition from Thursday to Wednesday. There will be the same six modified horse classes from 80cm to 1.30m and the start time also remains at 11am for this show. Horse and pony training retains its Friday evening slot, the spring / summer league commencing on Friday 1st May at its usual time of 5.30pm with, classes from X poles to 1.10m. Saturday 2nd May will see the commencement of the spring / summer outdoor arena eventing league which will be run in tandem with the final of the rescheduled winter / spring arena eventing league. This show will have a start time of 2pm for the 70cm class which will be followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. It is planned to run a combined cross jump series alongside the outdoor arena eventing league where combinations will be given the option to jump the arena eventing track alone or this along with a set track out on the cross country course combined. Further details with dates and times for this competition will follow at a later date in these pages. Finally, a fortnightly outdoor dressage league is being organised on sand from Tuesday 12th May from 6pm. Full details of this and all other shows / events throughout the summer can be found on the centres website or by contacting the office, event organisers are looking forward to welcoming clients old and new to the centre for this exciting spring / summer schedule of shows & events.

Week ending 12th April 2015, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

It was another busy week at Ravensdale Lodge as families made the most of the last week of the Easter break and combinations made the most of the good weather. It was also a long week at the centre with competitions starting on Easter Monday with the second “Bumper” show of the year taking place. There was the usual large attendance at this show as show jumping enthusiasts came in force to jump in the seven timed classes on the day. These shows are the Grand Prix for leisure riders where competition for prizes in each class is fierce, weather and jumping conditions were perfect on the day with the fences being dressed and the sun shone throughout. After this show was over the course was then set by the hard working arena parties at Ravensdale Lodge for Easter Tuesday’s Young Event Horse qualifier for Balmoral show.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-762008" alt="Stacey Watling, seen here with Alfie in the 85cm class had a busy day at Ravensdale Lodge's indoor arena eventing league on Saturday afternoon.
Once again the weather conditions favoured organisers on the day as combinations arrived and left the facility in bright warm sunshine. Thursday saw another near record breaking crowd jump in the SJI registered indoor league at Ravensdale Lodge. This league has two weeks left to run and there are six modified classes from 80cm to 1.30m with a start time of 11am. Friday evening’s indoor horse & pony training league also saw a large turnout for this ever popular show. Again, there are two weeks left to run with this league with the seven classes from X poles to 1.10m having a 5.30pm start time. Indoor arena eventing took centre stage on Saturday afternoon as combinations took on the three classes of show jumps and portable cross country fences combined. This competition continues next Saturday but riders are please asked to note that the final of this competition will now take place on Saturday 2nd May and not 25th April as previously advertised. There is a start time of 2pm for the 70cm class which is followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm. The final competitions of the six run at Ravensdale Lodge this week was held on Sunday afternoon when indoor dressage was the discipline. There are two more weeks of this league remaining and the competition has a 2pm start time, all weekly tests can be found on the Ravensdale Lodger website and entries should be in the office by no later than 9am on the Friday before competition. With two weeks left to run on the winter / spring schedule before everything moves outdoors again for the summer, show organisers are putting the finishing touches to the spring / summer schedule which will be announced in these pages next week. With so much on offer at the centre on a weekly basis, show organisers are hoping that the headline for the coming weeks will continue to be “Another busy week at Ravensdale Lodge”.
