Online social media course for equine businesses

CAFRE are excited to announce that they will be delivering an online social media course for equine businesses with the option of achieving an accredited qualification. The LANTRA qualification is a Level 3 Award in the Principles of Social Media and CAFRE will be focusing the training towards equine businesses. LANTRA are the UK’s Sector Skills Council for land based and environmental industries. The course will be delivered completely online and will consist of three presentations over a four week period. Those participants who wish to achieve the qualification will complete a workbook over the duration of the course. This workbook will then be returned to LANTRA for marking. Units in this qualification include:

Social media channels and tools
Measuring the success of social media and
Monitoring social media.

The qualification will cost £60 which covers certification and student registration with LANTRA. The training will be free of charge. Interactive Equine Seminars delivered by CAFRE

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) is running two interactive seminars for the equine industry in the coming weeks.

Equine Nutrition and Weight Management Techniques

CAFRE is hosting a training event on Equine Nutrition and Weight Management Techniques for all horse owners. The event runs over two days, 21^st and 22^nd of February at Down Royal Racecourse, Lisburn. The Friday evening will comprise of an Equine Nutrition and Feeding Conference followed by a practical Weight Management day where you can bring your horse along and learn how to correctly fat score, weigh tape and weigh your horse. Industry professionals will also be in attendance to provide information regarding diet and rations. The Athletic Horse – Inside Out

This interactive seminar will involve Equine and Veterinary experts performing dissections on various aspects of the horse, including the lower limb, the digestive tract, the hoof, the respiratory tract and the heart. The seminar will comprise of 5 sessions, each covering a different part of equine anatomy and delivered by an industry expert. Sessions will include an oral presentation and practical dissection of equine anatomy. Delegates will observe dissection and have an opportunity to examine anatomy.

The seminar will be of particular value to anyone who is involved in the training and conditioning of the athletic horse. Confirmation has been gained from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and from Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) that the seminar can be classed as a CPD event for registered vets and coaches, respectively.

Latest CAFRE Innovations Online Interactive Workshops

CAFRE are offering three online workshops covering Equine Nutrition, Horse Health and Breeding which will be delivered in interactive webinars beginning on 20^th January 2014. Each of the three topics will run over two weeks. The online lectures will be available during the first week and revision and test sessions will be available during the second week. Participants can access the sessions at any time during their scheduled week. Upon completion of the course all participants will gain a certificate of completion from CAFRE. Participants will be able to study any of the topics individually or can study all three subjects. These online courses are free of charge.

Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care

The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horse Care is an accredited course which will run over 8 weeks at Greenmount Campus, Antrim. This is a theory/classroom based course which will cover aspects of horse care including Feeding & Watering, Horse Health and Welfare, Fitting Horse Clothing such as tack, rugs and stable bandages, Health & Safety when working with horses and Employment Rights and Responsibilities.

The course will run on a Wednesday evening starting on Wednesday 5^th February from 7:15 to 9:15 pm. The course is suitable for anyone over 16 years of age, wishing to improve their knowledge of horses and stable management and will be particularly valuable to anyone working in the equine industry to enhance their skills.
