Zoe Briggs and Oscar topped the Newcomers riding Prelim 7 under the watchful eye of Geraldine Lowry. Laurel View Barney and Christine Smyth were pleased as punch with their second place spot.

Class 3 competitors riding Prelim 13 saw Ivor Harper in the Judges seat and when the points were added up the red rosette went home with Penny Murphy and Tick It, while the blue rosette was earned by Domino and Jacqui Lewis

Vanda Robinson was the judge for classes 4, 5 and 6, so she was kept very busy. The best performance of Prelim 14 was given by Leah Knight and Gibbs, narrowly ahead of Lucy Hanna riding Rock Black & Blue.

It was cold, the roads were white and a bit too much for some understandably, but those that donned their thermals and headed carefully to Laurel View on 29th December, helped make the last dressage competition of 2013 most enjoyable.

The BD Intro A was one of the tests that Ivor Harper had to judge on the day and putting in a star performance to win first place was Fair Actress ridden by Gemma Nicholl. Chloe Kincaid brought out the best in Laurel View Bruno to take second place.

Martina McKinley got the opportunity to use her judge’s eye on the Newcomers who were riding Prelim 4 at this competition. Taking the top spot when the points were totted up was Shelley McFarlane on William, coming in a very respectable second was Laurel View Rab ridden by Sharka Gerhardus.

A 1st for Shelley McFarlane and William in the Newcomers

Tick It and Penny Murphy ticked all the right boxes for Judge Will McAuley when they rode Prelim 12 in Class 3. A few points behind were Percy and Natalie Kelly in second place.

Beechmount Baxter and Linda McIlwaine racked up the most points given by Martina McKinley for riding Prelim 18 in Class 4. While Wills and Amy Neill took home the blue rosette for second place.

Ivor Harper cast his eye over Class 5 competitors’ stepping their way through Novice 24, the top test was ridden by Laura King on Freullingsturm, with Fionn Clarke and Knockroe Little Mike in second place with an excellent 70%.

Kirsty Marsden could not have been more delighted when her Elementary test on Loughmourne Diamond was placed first in the Open Class by Alison Mastin Moore, while Katie Burns and Caracas rode a cracker Medium test to take second place.

Thankfully the Equi-Tog photographers lens did not freeze over and hopefully everyone who participated or helped in any way thawed out nicely that evening.

Geraldine Lowry assessed the performance of competitors riding Prelim 13 for Class 4 with Kirsty Marsden obviously on top form taking home a first for her test on Loughmourne Diamond and a second riding Laurel View Cherry.

Laurel Faloona took the judges “not so” hot seat to judge the Novice and Open classes. In the Novice Katie Watt and Silly Sally scored highest, just ahead of Jill

Meanwhile indoors Fran Warden had the responsibility for judging Classes 2 and 3, top of the Newcomers class was Holly McKeown on Laurel View Sparky, beating fellow riding school steed Rab ridden by Sharka Gerhardus into second place. Prelim 4 was the test of the day for Class 3 competitors and Penny Murphy riding Tick It took the top spot, leaving Jewel and Leah Knight with a blue rosie.

Kelly Kerr was the last judge to leave her pen down after the walk trot test. Her scoring sent Connie Hannaway and CHE Banoffee French home with the first place rosette and Mount Charles Boy and Diane Jones with a second.

The judges and scribes were kept busy as the runners kept the competitors coming.

Erin Faloona was first to finish her judging duties, when X Rated and Sharon Watters were scored as the winning rider of Prelim 15 ahead of Silly Sally and Katie Watt.

Next to head home to the fireplace was Ivor Harper after he had cast his expert eye over Class 3 competitors riding Prelim 7. Top of the class was Roma Oakes and Chit Chat, with MJI Invincible and Joanne Jarden in second place.

Geraldine Lowry and Ringfort Nimmerdino earned the Open class winner for their Elementary test, with Claire Sedgeman and Silken Art taking a blue rosette here for their Elementary performance.

The Newcomers were judged by Amy Neill on this occasion and her winning pair was William and Shelley McFarlane, with Eric and Lucy Telford taking home the blue ribboned rosette.

The last test of the day was the PC D level walk/trot test judged by Laurel Faloona and the winner here was declared as Santiago Gutierrex riding Alfie, with Mount Charles Boy and Diane Jones taking their second second of the league.

Fun and games at Laurel View on Sunday 20th October at the Novelty 3 phase event. Competitors had been promised that no jumping was required and any tests could be learnt on the day. The Le Trec Challenge was set up in the smaller indoor and there were seven different tests to tackle. Obstacle Dressage was in the larger indoor and had the competitors ride in and out of bendy poles, round the cones, as they navigated their way round the course. Then when everyone had had a go at the Obstacle Dressage, the course was whipped away and the barrels appeared, so that the third phase could get underway. Once the riders had figured out which direction to circumnavigate the barrels then we were all sorted for a flying finish, the scorer couldn’t manage to keep up on the calculator. But the numbers were soon added and verified and the following results were announced.

Will we do another Novelty 3 Phase? Keep an eye on www.laurelview.co.uk to see what we have planned for what’s left of 2013 and into the New Year.

Now the nights are drawing in where better to be on a Wednesday evening than at Laurel View for the Wednesday evening jumping, all indoors!

The Winter Show Jumping League got underway on 2nd October, with the current league running right up until Wednesday 18th December, so plenty of time yet to rack up points to get onto the leader board.

Making a good start with red ribbons to show for their efforts already are Guinness and Sally ridden by Penny Richmond and Jordan Magill respectively in the 45cm class. Chief and Cora McNulty have picked up two already in the sixties. Thizbee and Megan Ingram have picked up a red for the seventies in week one and for the eighties in week two. While Chloe and Lauren Fleming won the eighties on the 2nd October and Joshua Boyles and Peter took the top spot for the 70cm on the 9th. Mikey and Amy Wilson took home the red rosette for the 90cm class on the first leg of the league.

The competition each week starts with the 45cm course at 6pm, perfect for horses, ponies or riders that are only starting to get jumping. Then with a bit more experience or courage under your belt the 60cm is the next challenge. The jumps keep on moving on up to 70cm, 80cm and then 90cm, even a metre if there is sufficient interest (and staff energy!) left.

For more information on this league or any of the other Laurel View activities check out www.laurelview.co.uk or give the office a ring on 028 9083 0649
