GAIN-ALLTECH Results Kernan Equestrian Centre Sunday 4^th October 2015

The GAIN-ALLTECH Autumn Series Grand Prix Horse Show was hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre on Sunday 4^th October. Sunday dawned bright and sunny and the day’s sport kicked off with the 1.10m two phase class which was sponsored by Eamonn Rice Bloodstock & Shipping. Top place went to Mark Murphy on Tommy McGuinness’s Horseware Foxy finishing in a time of 23.91secs. Second place went to local woman Judy Murphy’s Candis ridden by Richard Wright in a time of 24.53secs and third to regular at Kernans April McCrea on her own Baby Blossom. April completed her double clear in a time of 26.98secs.

Next event was the 1.20m class which proved to be a very exciting class as the top three places were fought out by the last three combinations to go into the ring.

John Floody on Kieran King’s Kings Best third last to go produced what looked like the winning round, speeding round in a fast time of 27.39secs only to be pipped at the post by last to go Sean Kavanagh on Newrange Lady who clipped 0.6secs of John’s time giving him first place. Sarah Burns on Georgie’s Star second last to go produced a stylish double clear in 28.94secs giving her third place. Sean Kavanagh was in the winning lineup again with DunganCloverBridge in fourth as was Mark Murphy and Tommy McGuiness’s Horseware Kilcotrim 5^th and Ellie Highes 6^th on Hard Times.

First place in the two phase 1.30m class went to John Floody on Craigmanus Hold Up Diamond in a time of 32secs. Second to Aoife Dooley riding the Lennon stable’s Calgot Hero in 33.24secs and third place to April McCrea this time riding Carmenflag in a time of 33.35secs. The 1.20m and 1.30m classes were kindly sponsored by McCaughey’s 24hr Top Service Station, Broomfield, Co. Monaghan.

The eagerly awaited main event of the day the Gain-Alltech €3,000 euro Grand Prix, sponsored by Golden Irish Eggs, Castleblaney was run as a jump off class over course designer Tom Holden’s challenging course. Of the twenty five starters eleven combinations went through to the jump off . The first double clear was provided by Catherine Thornton and Derryinver Luxury Cruise in a time of 40.75 secs. Next in old hand Peter Smyth looked like he had secured the coveted first place scorching around in 39.57secs on Diamond Courage. Not be outdone was the irrepressible Alexander Butler and Ladycastle Syndicate’s Vimminka whose superb round and fast time of 39.25secs robbed Peter of first place but he seemed happy enough with second. Alexander was delighted with his win and beautiful cut glass crystal trophy presented by Ciara Coryn of Golden Irish Eggs. Catherine Thorton had a very successful show taking 3^rd and 4^th placse on Lowhill Glenard Lad (40.08secs) and Derryinver Luxury Cruise (40.75secs) respectively. The final two places went to John Floody riding Mise le Meas 5^th in 39.66secs and Eileen Duggan’s Bronan De Reve 6^th in 40.09secs.

Kernan Equestrian Centre Held BLUEGRASS Ulster Region Autumn Pony League on Saturday 19^th September 2015

The Indoor Pony Show held at Kernan Equestrian Centre on Saturday 19th September was part of the SJI Ulster Region BLUEGRASS Autumn Pony Tour. A very busy day ensued with 220 entries in all.

The main competitions were the three Grand Prix events. First was the 128 1m Grand Prix, only one of the six 128cm classes, which was kindly sponsored by the Linen Green Shopping Centre. First and second place were taken by Alex Finney riding Ballknock Master Roan and Some Journey respectively. Third place went to Max Foley on Sparkle. Another exciting class in the 128cm section was the Under 10Years 85cm class when two riders finished on exactly the same times. Maeve Clarke on Lenamore Mini Metro sped around but not to be outdone , last to go was Charles Heffron on Ballykett Highlander who matched her time of 23.35secs to the second. Third place went to Lucy Morton on Tynan Petal.

The next Grand Prix event was the 138 1.10m. The 138cm classes were sponsored by Douglas Sport Horses of Aughnacloy and Walter and Jane Russell. Seven combinations successfully completed double clear rounds over course designer’s Alan Lynch’s challenging course. But it was Aisling McGuinness’s fast time of 24.10secs who emerged victorious on Cider Girl. Hot on her heels in second place was Jason Foley on Ferrybank Roy in a time of 24.54 secs. Third went to Ruari Clarke on Gaulstown Lady Bishop who finished on a time of 25.83secs.

Last Grand Prix event of the day, the 148 1.20m Grand Prix was sponsored by McCaughey Foods of Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan who kindly sponsored all 148cm classes. Although seven competitors achieved double clear rounds it was Tyrone Flanagan on Talyas Diamond Link whose time of 26.40secs narrowly beat Jason Foley and Lyncot Fancy Pant’s time of 26.63secs leaving Jason to take second place and Tyrone the coveted first place. Regulars at Kernans, Carl Webb on Future Lady was placed third in a time of 28.30secs. Kernan Equestrian Centre wish to extend their sincere thanks to all their sponsors and all those taking part in the day’s competition helping to make this a very successful fixture in the pony calendar. We also want to extend our appreciation to course designer Alan Lynch whose excellent courses proved challenging but produced good results.

Ponies and riders from across the Provence and beyond beat a path to Kernan’s Equestrian Centre and saddled up for Kernan’s Autumn Pony Championships which hosted rounds of both the 2015 Bluegrass Autumn Pony Tour and Ulster Region Points Cup, which drew a remarkable crowd and was the curtain raiser for an action packed weekend of jumping at Kernan’s Equestrian Centre which hosted an Amateur Championships the following day.

Everyone’s favourite class of the day and kicking off the 128 Championship classes kindly sponsored by Linen Green Shopping Village, Dungannon, the Bluegrass 128 50cm drew a super entry with some rather professional displays of horsemanship from such young athletes. Double clears included; N. Taylor’s Scarletts Bubblicious (Kym Moore), M. Kelly’s Bubble Bob (Zara-Jane Kelly), J. Currie’s Curolea Rosi (Maria Carr), W. Adair’s Casper (Adam Adair), M. The Under 10 Championship was the usual hub of excitement and embarking on a very promising career, young Charles Heffron got off to a flying start as he navigated his way round Kernan’s arena to take joint top spot in the Under 10′s class with his super pony ‘Ballykett Highlander’ and sixth place with his other mount ‘Dandy’ with Maeve Clarke and ‘Mini Metro’ stopping the clock to match the winning time of 23:35 deservedly bringing home the joint honours in the Under 10 Championship with Lucy Morton who rode exceptionally all day and ‘Tynan Petal’ finishing in third and Emily Steele and ‘Bright Bling’ and Conor Harris and ‘Bradbury Blackthorn’ finishing in fifth and sixth respectively.

Kernan’s round of the Bluegrass Autumn Pony Tour marked the half-way point for front runners with everything still to jump for and a best five out of eight scores to count in the final. Athletes marking their spot on the leaderboard after Kernan’s in the Bluegrass 128 Under 10 are Charles Heffron taking top spot with 31 points, with Emily Steele in second with 22 points and Lucy Morton in third on 15 points.

With seven combinations through to jump against the clock in the 128cm Grand Prix, Alex Finney, riding with her usual determination claimed the top two spots on ‘Ballyknock Master Roan’ and ‘Some Journey’ galloping home with the fastest of only four double clear rounds stamping her mark in the jump-off to win the class in style leaving Max Foley and ‘Sparkle’ in third.

Taking top spot in the Walter & Jane Russell sponsored 138cm Grand Prix Aisling McGuiness aboard ‘ McGuiness’s Cider Girl’ was on unstoppable form with a spectacular round in a time of 24:10 putting Jason Foley and ‘Ferrybank Roy’ into 2nd place in 24:54 and Ruairi Clarke and ‘Gaulstown Lady Bishop’ in third with 25:83.

Eve Donnelly is sitting pretty in the top spot in the Bluegrass 138 1.10m leader board on 26points, with Alex Finney breathing down her neck in 21 points and Jason Foley in third on 18 points.

In the feature class of the afternoon kindly sponsored by McCaughey Foods Castleblaney, the atmosphere had built for the 148cm Grand Prix and it was a victorious Tyrone Flanaghan and ‘Talyas Diamond Link’ time to shine coming home in a time of 26:40. Tyrone, who is no stranger to a red rosette, picked up the 148cm title putting Jason Foley with ‘Lynncot Fancy Pants’ into 2nd place in a time of 26:63 and Carl Webb and ‘Future Lady’ into third with 28:30 providing a thrilling finale to an enjoyable days pony show jumping.

Not a lot separates the cream at the top of the Bluegrass 148 1.20 Leader board with Michael Roche out in front with 25 points closely followed by Carl Webb on 22 points and Tyrone Flanaghan in third spot on 16 points.

In the penultimate class of the day Nadine McKenna aboard ‘Patch Mills Sportsman gave a flawless performance in a time of 26:03 getting her name on the leader board taking a thoroughly deserved victory in the Children On Horses 1m with a fast jump off round in what was to end up a three-horse-race leaving league leader Jennifer Torrens and ‘Lackaview Star’ in 2nd place.

Jennifer Torrens strides ahead in the Bluegrass Children On Horses 1m Leader board with 25 points leaving Nadine McKenna in second place with 22 points and Katie Conlon and Amy Roberts both sitting on 20 points in joint-third.

It was all to jump for in the evening finale of the Kernan’s Autumn Pony Championships with the big guns turning out in force for valuable points in the Bluegrass Autumn Pony Tour Children On Horses 1.10/1.20 Leader board. Kathryn Morton aboard Tynnan Dominic Blue took the honours in a blistering time of 27:06 forcing tour leader Mackenzie Healy and ‘Lolita’ into second place in a time of 31:67. Mackenzie also took third and fourth placing with ‘Recolpa Rose’ and ‘Mr Easy Street’ respectively.

Mackenzie Healy is ahead by a good length in the Bluegrass Autumn Pony Tour Children On Horses 1.10/1.20m Leader board with a respectable 32 points, with Kathryn Morton in second spot with 18 points and Katie Conlon in third on 14 points.

2nd Prizewinner in Amateur class Caroline Black on Rathfilane Star

A qualifier for RUAS Balmoral Show was held at Kernan Equestrian Centre on Saturday April 11^th.

This was the first outdoor show of the season. The first competition, the Amateur with a field of 51 competitors kicked off in good time with the A’s going first. From the twenty one combinations through to the jumpoff ten came from the A category as did the eventual winner Brian Cassidy on Iquem Du Plesis whose fast time of 40.23secs set a pace that couldn’t be bettered. Although Caroline Black on Rathfilane Star from the AA’s did her best her time of 42.52secs gave her 2^nd place. Ulster Region secretary Colleen Glasgow an A rider on Turlough Cavalier Clover seemed very happy with her 3^rd place having completed her clear round in a time of 47.37secs.

The second competition for 5Year Old horses produced a worthy winner in Simon Scott on Ballymullholland Echo Lass. Simon was one of seven combinations to go clear in the jumpoff. Second last to go Simon went for it and his excellent time of 46.01 secs assured him of the first prize.

1st Prizewinner in the Amateur class Brian Cassidy and Iquem Du Plesis

William Anderson on Ronnie Hollinger’s Creevagh Limited Edition who was in the lead up till then took 2^nd place in 46.51secs and third went to Connor McEnaeaney and Mullabrack Premier in a time of 48.16secs.

1st Prizewinner in the 5 Yr Old classSimon Scott and Ballymulholland Echo Lass.

Next was the 6/7 Year Old event. The standard of jumping was high in this category with thirteen going clear and through to the jump off. The seventh of these to jump clear in a time of 47.13secs was Connor McEneaney on his father’s 6 Yr old CMS Gunfire. Connor managed to hold on to his lead thoughout the rest of the competition emerging victorious. William Anderson was in the ribbons again with the 6 Yr old Iroko Molly . William’s clear round in 47.16secs gave him 2^nd place and Melanie Davidson qualified her 7 Yr old horse Quontum in a time of 49.22secs.

1st Prizewinner in the 6/7 Yr Old class Connor McEneaey and CMS Gunfire

The last competition of the day was the 1.30m class. Again the standard of jumping was high with sixteen of the thirty seven starters producing clear rounds and six of these going double clear over course designer Alistair Megahey’s strong course which rode very well whilst proving challenging to horse and rider. First to go Connor McEneaney on Moonlite Cavalier set up the challenge with a clear round in 43.39 secs. Connor’s time could not be bettered even by himself as 2^nd place went to Connor as well on Kieran King’s Kings Best who finished up on a slightly slower 43.76 secs. Kirsten Farr and R. Candy’s time of 48.79secs gave them the 3^rd placing..

Kernan Equestrian Hold Successful Round of Equestrian Interschools Ireland

The latest round of the Equestrian Interschools Ireland League was held on Saturday 7^th February and hosted by Kernan Equestrian Centre, Crossmaglen Co. Armagh. James Kernan the proprietor built the courses for both the Novice and Open team and individual events.

The schools taking part were: ScoilMhuire,Trim; Our Lady’s Castleblaney and Monaghan Collegiate in the Novice Team event.

Scoile Mhuire, Trim and Monaghan Collegiate competed in the Open Team Event.

The day kicked off with the Novice Team event which was won by Monaghan Collegiate. The team consisted of Averil Mackeral on Jojo; Lucinda Kinghan on Sebastian; Alvin McElwaine on Mivvi and Sophie Kinghan on Bongo;

The winner of the Novice Individual was Florence Sheridan on Impish Behaviour,

KingsHospital, Navan; 2^nd Jennifer Duffy on GM’s Pride, Our Lady’s, Castleblaney;

3^rd Alvin McElwaine on Mivvie, Monaghan Collegiate; 4^th JP Meegan on Twilight Silver,

Our Lady’s, Castleblaney;

In the Open Team competition, both teams qualified for the jump off against the clock. First in for Monaghan Collegiate were Victoria McElwaine and Pandora picking up 4 faults at the last fence in 38.15 secs, followed by Ciara Woods and Inchmore Ranger jumping clear in a time of 41.19 secs , good enough to take 1^st place

Next in for Scoil Mhuire, Trim was Grace Evans and Bobby followed by Morgan Cummins and Charmer whose clear round in a good time 38.64 secs gave them 2^nd place.

The Open Individual competition was run as a one round speed..This proved to be a very exciting competition. The standard of jumping was high with seven combinations producing clear rounds. Second last to go Scoile Mhuire’s competitor Morgan Cummins and North Star ‘s gave a stylish display of jumping and their excellent time of 23.70secs assured them of 1^st place. Grace Evans and Bobby (Scoile Mhuire, Trim) who had earlier set the pace finishing on a fast time of 25.98secs took 2^nd . Third place went to Ciara Woods and Inchmore Ranger (27.23secs) representing Monaghan Collegiate adding yet another ribbon to their day’s tally.
