With the weather taking a turn for the worse and the short six week summer / autumn schedule of events at Ravensdale Lodge reaching the half way point this week, show organisers are starting to focus their attention on the move indoors in a month’s time. The finishing touches are being put to the twelve week run of autumn / winter shows which will bring the curtain down on the 2014 show season at Ravensdale Lodge. Full details of this forthcoming seasonal run of shows will be published in the next few weeks.

It was another busy week at the show & event facility with all show jumping events in particular seeing large turnouts of combinations throughout the week. Shows continue this week with outdoor dressage on Tuesday from 6pm. Full details of weekly classes can be found on the Ravensdale Lodge website and entries for these competitions can be made to the office by phone, text, email or facebook message. SJI registered outdoor show jumping leagues continue as normal on Wednesday with the 6 modified horse classes from 80cm to 1.30m commencing at 11am while the usual modified 128cm, 138cm & 148cm pony classes have a start time of 5.30pm. Friday evenings Mackins Horse Feeds outdoor horse & pony training league has a start time of 5pm for the 7 classes from X poles to 1.10m. Show organisers would like to thank combinations for their great efforts by arriving in good time for the early classes in order to facilitate the large entries on the evening. Arena eventing continues on Saturday from 2pm with the 70cm class getting proceedings underway. The 85cm class follows at 3pm and the final class of the day is the 1m class which commences at 4pm. The weekly competitions conclude on Sunday afternoon with the cross-jump series which consists of a jumping phase in the outdoor sand arena followed by a cross country phase. This competition offers combinations great value with the courses typically offering up to 19 fences in the sand arena followed by up to 18 jumping efforts cross country. Producers and riders have also found these courses useful for schooling young or inexperienced horses over well made fences hence gaining valuable experience. Cross jump starts at 12pm on Sunday with the 1m class, the 85cm class follows and will not start before 1pm while the final class of the afternoon and week, the 70cm class will not start before 2pm. As always, the world-class facilities at Ravensdale Lodge remain open for schooling throughout the week and bookings can be made through the office.

Knockagh View Equestrian Centre, Greenisland held a jump cross day on Sunday 9th February, it was such a success there will be an exciting jump cross league on Saturdays’s 1st, 15th March, 5th April and the final on 26th April. There will be a point system with 1 point being allocated each week for attendance, 1 point for a clear round and 1 point for clearing the Knockagh novelty joker fence, there will be double points up for grabs on the final day. The Knockagh Novelty joker fence is optional each week. There are fantastic prizes at the final with a jump off against the clock in the event of a tie in points. Each Saturday the jumping will start at 11am with 60cms to 90cms. Our Jump cross stars from February were Clare Dobbin and her pony Louie jumping a lovely clear round to start off the day.
There was hot competition in the 70cm class with the consistent pair of Megan Ingram and Thizbee emerging as the winners.
In the 80cm class Leeann Nesbitt showed how it was done having a lovely clear in a very fast time on Vera.
