<p>It is with much excitement that we can introduce two new sponsors for our forthcoming dressage season.  ‘Harmony Hair Studio’ of Bangor and ‘Coast of Donaghadee’ are two local businesses each offering the modern females of today a feeling of sophistication and glamour for their hair and wardrobes.  Proprietors of Harmony Hair Studio Jessica Stuart, Helen Duncan and Esther Ward had their official launch in August 2015 and pride themselves in being the only salon in Northern Ireland to stock ‘Natulique’ – the only complete certified organic professional hair beauty line in the world.  Together the girls have over 25 years experience in the industry and no detail has been overlooked in the creation of this beautiful studio located on Grays Hill in Bangor.  Boasting a fabulous relaxation suite, delicious complimentary drinks menu and professional friendly staff, this salon is well worth a visit.  Log onto facebook.com/harmonyhairNI to read the 5* ratings received by Harmonys clients.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>‘Coast of Donaghadee’ is a Ladies Fashion Boutique set in the bustling seaside town of Donaghadee, County Down.  Established 14 years ago, the business moved to larger premises almost 4 years ago and was taken over by local businesswoman Barbara Stuart.  Located in the centre of this hiving historical town the shop boasts an extensive range of ladies wear including brands such as Robell, Tia, Adini and Brandtex.  Barbara has an eye for detail and prides herself in offering outfits suitable for everyday wear to mother-of-the bride outfits including hats and accessories.  The staff at Coast are always at hand to help and each customer receives one-to-one assistance to select that special item of clothing or entire outfit depending on the occasion.  This stylish boutique is well worth a visit and Gransha Equestrian Centre are excited to get underway with this new sponsorhip deal which promises to offer competitors great rosettes and prizes throughout the winter months.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">The Derby Arena at Gransha Equestrian Centre played host to the fourth and final Derby competition held on Sunday 28th June before action resumes in the Antwerp Arena and grass cross country field on Wednesday 1st July.  Madison Diamond returned to her winning ways by taking the honours in the senior 70cm class with Paulene Foster.  Hot on her heels was Kate Robinson riding Harry to 2nd and Rachel Crawford on Oscar into 3rd place.  Jumping off against the clock to decide 4th place was Karen Jeffrey and Lindsey McMullan.  Junior produced the faster time for Karen to take 4th while Lady was slightly slower and Lindsey had to settle for 5th.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<p>It was lovely to see two well presented junior riders in the 80cm class who sailed around the challenging track and gave both their ponies a great ride.  First place went to Lara Kelly and her beautiful coloured pony Rex while second place was awarded to Regan McKee and Chleo.  Leanne  McNamara and Sorcha produced the only clear in the senior section to take the top spot.  Rachel Irwin and Camero tipped one pole to take 2nd just ahead of Gail McKie and Dave the Cob who slotted into 3rd.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Keeping it in the family in the over 50s category, it was the turn of Hester Kelly, grandmother of Lara who produced a foot perfect clear round to win the class.  Valerie McKie, who has campaigned her lovely grey mare Song of Sixpence over all four of the weeks had to settle for 2nd place.  Many thanks to everyone who has supported these Derbys.  Forthcoming events can be found at <a href="http://www.granshaequestrian.co.uk/">www.granshaequestrian.co.uk</a></p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">Week 3 of the June Derbys took place at Gransha Equestrian Centre on Sunday 21st.  Putting our younger riders to shame were the highly competitive lady riders in the over 50’s class.  Rosemary McDonald, Judith Bankhead and Valerie McKie all jumped foot perfect first rounds in the testing track designed by Adrienne Stuart.  Overall placings were decided by a timed round over a shortened course.  Producing a faultless round in a very fast time was Rosemary on the attractive chestnut mare ‘Sasha.’  ‘Song of Sixpence’ and Valerie sped round and clinched 2nd place just ahead of ‘Polly’ and Judith for 3rd.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">Last weekend saw the final round of the Horseworld NI working hunter league hosted in the Antwerp Arena at Gransha Equestrian Centre.  The league winner of each class was presented with a beautiful ‘Antwerp Arena’ rug courtesy of Gransha EC and a stunning brown and cream sash and rosette which are the company colours of Horseworld NI.   This local business which is owned and run by Vicky Cunningham has been established for 3 years now and stocks a wide range of equestrian brands.  The beauty of this business is that Vicky can travel around the competition venues with her mobile tack shop so riders will never be stuck for those essential items they may have left at home on the day of a show.</p>

<p>The horse classes took place on Saturday14th and our judges were Erin and Laurel Faloona.  Valery Clegg and Highly Sprung fought off stiff competition to win the league in class 1 (70cm performance).  In a very close 2nd were ‘Polly’ and Judith Bankhead.  Third place went to Lynzi McCartney and Logans Leap.  The winning combination on the day was ‘Tory’ ridden by Emma Jackson.  2nd went to Judith Bankhead on ‘Polly’ and 3rd was Colin Halliday on ‘Aero’.  After a quick swap, Emma Jackson returned on ‘George’ and ‘Thor’ to take 1st and 2nd in the four year old class.  Rachel Moore came 3rd with ‘Playboy,’  Moving up the leaderboard to take the top spot in the novice 70cm class was the consistent partnership of Lynzi McCartney and ‘Logans Leap.’  This pair won on the day and won the league.  Slotting into 2nd was Laura Wilson and ‘Sunday’ followed by Vicky Teuton with ‘Good to Go’.</p>

<p>It was a win for Caitlin McKechnie and Sharon McGimpsey’s ‘Knockamara Gypsy’ in the coloured WH class.  Gail McIlwaine and ‘Ballyroly’ took 2nd while Kate Campbell and ‘Glen’ slotted into 3rd.  Grand Prix Dressage rider Lucy Adams showed us all how it should be done by winning the open 80cm WH class with her very talented schoolmaster ‘Ben Hymn’.  Emma Jackson had a 2nd with Hugh while Vicky Teuton notched up another 3rd with ‘Good to Go.’  It was a successful day for local businessman Ian Jones of Ian’s School of Motoring as he took home the sash and rug for being league winners of this section with his beautiful brown mare, ‘Ebony.’  Suzanne Cobain and ‘Elsa’ also stood out from the crowd as they won the league prize in the novice smalls class.  Homebred ‘Coonawara’ and Kirsty Jackson took 1st place in the open smalls class with Rachel Moore and ‘Old Yard Imp’ slotting into 2nd.</p>

<p>Day two of our working hunter finals took place on Sunday 15th with the pony classes.  Alison Kirpatrick put the children through their paces and once again prizes were very generously sponsored by Gransha EC and Horseworld NI.  Lucy Donnan and her gorgeous pony ‘Donny Darko’ were the first pair to be presented with their first place in the cross pole class.  It was the turn of older sister Holly Donnan in the First ridden class as she took 1st place with ‘Lady Zara’.  2nd went to Zara Wood and ‘Ballymac Girl’.  Lucy Donan took 3rd this time with ‘Lady Zara.’</p>

<p>Ballymac Girl has been the pony to beat this season in these classes with young Zara Wood coming back week after week and showing great determination and dedication.  All of that hard work paid off as the pair went home with not one but two sashs’ after winning the league in the first ridden and the cradle stakes classes.  On the day it was Hannhah Bayfield and ‘Ruby’ who impressed the judge to win the cradle stakes.  Standing out from the crowd in the open starter stakes was Abby Cummisky and her pony ‘Maxamilo’.  They won on the day and took home the league prize.  Lauren Belton McGlennon and ‘Ganaway Breeze’  had a successful day picking up a 4th in the open cradle stakes and a 2nd in the open starter stakes.  ‘Brunely Winston’ ridden by Lucy Kayes picked up a 3rd in the open starter stakes on the day and went on to win a lovely GEC saddle cloth for taking 2nd place in the league.</p>

<p>Competitors had one final chance to impress the judges at the last qualifying round of dressage on Sunday 22nd February.  The open class got the day off to a great start with Courtney Stuart putting in two solid performances in both the PSG and the Inter 1.  Judge Lucy Adams awarded Courtney a score of 65% in both tests.  Elaine Morrow rode Ardenza Gem to 3rd &amp; 4th slots in medium 73 and advanced medium 94 with scores of 62.94% and 61.76%.  Taking 5th place was Caroline Herron with her own Clantara Midnight Classic.  While these riders stayed dry in the Antwerp Arena poor Andrew Robinson and the senior prelim riders got a soaking as they competed in the derby arena.  Not put off by the rain Andrew and his lovely coloured pony ‘Flight of the Phoenix’ scored a respectable 65.20% in front of judge David Patterson.  Coming out on top in the senior prelim category was Heather McMillan on Herbie, closely followed by Sharon McGimpsey on Knockarama Gypsy and in 3rd was Laura Wilson riding Sunday.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The two novice classes proved to be very competitive with Jasmin Vollands and Mo Chara Nua winning the DI N26 and Raven Craig and Burrenbridge II winning BD novice 23.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The clear winner in the elementary class was the very consistent Rosemary Paterson with her own ‘Homegrown Rolex.’ This pair notched up a 66.77% putting them ahead of Vicky Dobbin with Impy on a score of 63.87%.  Emily Morris and Florida Bud were a close 3rd with 63.54% putting Claire Hunter and ‘Spice up the News’ into 4th with 61.77%.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sidesaddle riders on the day were Stella Black on Greaghnacross Dusty Moon and Sharon McGimpsey on Knockarama Gypsy.  Judge Alison Kirpatrick awarded Stella 76.32% and Sharon 75.26%.  Stella went on to gain a 68.42% winning the BD prelim 1 class.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>A good entry in the senior prelim 1 class saw a win for Leah Jackson riding Gemily.  Joint 2nd went to Sharon McGimpsey and Debbie Rush with Archie.  Equal 4th went to Raven Craig and Karen Jeffrey riding Junior.  Sixth was Joanne Stuart on Bobby’s Girl and 7th was Beverley Williams on Rocca.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Rounding the day off was the Intro class.  Lachlan Henry and Zara Wood have been competitors in this class since the league began back in September and have shown real improvement over the months leading up to our final in March.  Zara got a 73.91% with Ballymac Girl to win the class while Lachlan and Rusty achieved a great score of 68.26% to take 2nd place.  Another of Sylvia Henry’s pupils, this time senior intro rider Louise Sullivan kept up her winning streak piloting Rolo to 1st place in the large senior section.  Sarah Eccles and her new mount ‘Babbling Brook Rocky’ came away with 2nd place while 3rd was awarded to Ruth Hendry riding Walter.  Another of our regular combinations was Carol Regan and Clover who took 4th place.  Fifth went to Anna Dunlop with Ardara Blackberry while Charlotte Fell and Ted were awarded 6th.  Seventh place went to Sharon Regan riding Rua.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>All of the team at Gransha look forward to welcoming you back on Sunday 22nd March for our grand final.  Check out the website for all the details.</p>
