Bumper Finale For Flexi Eventing

The. Meadows Equestrian Centre was a hive of activity on Saturday for the final leg in the current series of Flexi Eventing with all three disciplines well supported. In attendance was a group of equine students from CAFRE’s Enniskillen Campus, under the guidance of Julie McSwiggan, who thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and certainly did their College proud with their performances.
The Intro dressage class was won by Clare Steele on Lulu who had a five point margin over second placed Cara Norman on Two Tone Ventura who has been consistently in the top six on each occasion she competed. The following four places were taken by CAFRE students who clearly have been having some very good flatwork coaching.
In the Pre Novice section the familiar duo of Lucy Lamont and Yogi Bear, who had travelled from the North West of the Province, took the honours with another consistent combination of Jayne Moore and Lisa’s Dream taking the runner up spot.
The red ribbon in the Novice class was taken by Kathryn Graham and Ladakhas Guy who are seldom missing from top placings. Second place went to Susie Berry who dominated the class with 3 top six placings.

Show jumping was very busy with almost 150 testing Aaron McCusker’s superb courses. The cross country schooling area was well utilised with the water being the main problem area for many of the young horses .
The Meadows Equestrian Centre and Eventing Ireland (NR) would like to thank everyone who supported this very successful series of Flexi Eventing as well as all the Judges, Scribes, Starters and Arena Stewards.
Next week sees the start of the Registered Show Jumping alongside the new venture, CashJumping where 50% of entry fees go into the prize fund in each class from 60cms – 1.30m. Full details are on the CashJumpingIreland website.

Anna Excels At The Meadows

Saturday was a mixed day in all senses at the Flexi Eventing at The Meadows where early morning competitors had to brave the elements while those competing in the latter part of the day enjoyed glorious sunshine.
Double clears in the showjumping were difficult to find but riders were very content with the opportunity of doing some very valuable schooling prior to the start of the Eventing and ShowJumping seasons.

The dressage attracted another good entry and the standard was very encouraging in all classes. However, the competitor who stood out was Anna Kelly who took a first and third in dressage and delivered two super double clears in the showjumping which augurs very well for the Eventing year ahead.
Alex Gordon also made a very welcome return to the arena and claimed the red dressage rosette in the Novice class on board Sox before hot-footing it off for a hockey match!
Fiona Fitzbibbon and Charlie Finn had a run-away victory in Intro dressage, finishing three points clear of Malachy Casement and his very promising Maestoso.
Next week sees the finish of the current series of Flexi Eventing. Dressage entries should be with Dora by 6pm on Wednesday.

Flexi Eventing Competitors Brave The Storm

There was another huge turn out at The Meadows for week 2 of The Flexi Eventing. Unfortunately the weather was very mixed and some of the riders had to brave heavy rain and winds. However, spirits were good and standards were high across the board in all disciplines.
Ardnacashel’s Janice Reddy took the Intro dressage honours this week aboard La Petite Al Azan, finishing just ahead of Maya Boyle who occupied the same position last week on Topaz.

Anna Kelly is showing great consistency in the Pre Novice section where she topped the standings with Arnie, half a point clear of David Wightman and Cooper.

Meantime, Jemma Parkhill trotted to victory in the Novice class with Louie , completing with a 5 point margin over Elaine O’Connor and Tullymurry Holly- another combination showing great consistency over the past two weeks.

The showjumping arena got underway ahead of schedule and continued unabated until mid afternoon with the cross country running in tandem. Over 120 horses jumped in total with many also enjoying the schooling opportunity of the cross country course.

The series, which is open to everyone, continues every Saturday until the end of February.

Flexi Eventing ‘Takes Off’ at The Meadows

The current series of Flexi Eventing, run by Eventing Ireland (NR), in association with The Meadows Equestrian Centre, got off to a super start on Saturday with large entries in all three disciplines. The weather turned rather nasty by the afternoon but competitors braved the elements to continue with the dressage, showjumping and cross country.

In the dressage, the Intro winner was Sarah Hall with Rocky followed by a new combination of Maya Boyle and Topaz while Scorer, Ronnie Beggs, had to examine the collective marks before awarding the red rosette in the Pre Novice Section. This went to Ella Boyle and Roo who finished on an equal score to Anna Kelly, riding Johnny. This very competitive class was dominated by young riders which augurs very well for our up-coming Eventing Season.

Meantime, victory in the Novice class went to Daniel Brown on his mother’s Euro Jackpot who finished one point clear of Elaine O’Connor and her home-bred, Tullymurry Holly.

The cross country was well supported with fences giving many of the combinations plenty to think about. The water, in particular, had its fair share of ‘double takes’ but provided a very valuable schooling opportunity at this stage of the year.

The Flexi Eventing continues every Saturday until 22 February and is open to absolutely everyone. As the name suggests, riders can choose to do any or all of the three disciplines. Dressage needs to be pre entered by 6pm on Wednesday of each week with Dora on 07876758979 or dorabeacom@live.co.uk but showjumping and cross country can be entered on the day.

Final of Flexi Eventing at The Meadows

The final leg of the current series of Flexi Eventing took place at The Meadows Equestrian Centre on Saturday where a great number of competitors and their supporters turned out to enjoy one of the nicest days so far, albeit a little cold.

In the dressage Suzi Berry replicated her fine performance of last week with a win in Pre Novice A and placings in both Novice and Intermediate. Erin Faloona also featured in the Pre Novice line up, picking up a 2^nd and 3^rd with her two horses. Meantime, Johnny Hagan claimed the honours in the B section of the Pre Novice which had to be split again this week due to large entries with Andrew Scott, claiming runner-up spot, having climbed two places from last week.

Daniel Brown got his season off to a great start by winning both Novice and Intermediate on his mother’s 12 year old Ricardo Z gelding, Ricardo Colour.

By request, we ran an Advanced class this week with an FEI*** test which was well supported. The red rosette went to Clare Abbott on Cormac McKay’s 10 year old gelding Euro Prince with Becky Cullen and Glenhill Gold, slotting into 2^nd.

The showjumping started half an hour ahead of schedule and continued with record entries until after 4pm while the cross country once again provided plenty of ‘food for thought’ for horses and riders alike.

Eventing Ireland (NR) is holding a Two Phase (Showjumping and Cross Country) at Tyrella on 9 March with classes for 70cms, 85cms & 1m. Entry forms can be obtained from Dora by texting 07876758979 or by email (dorabeacom@live.co.uk. Entries close on 2 March.

There will also be combined training (dressage and showjumping) at Tyrella on Saturday 16^th March. Dressage should be pre-entered with Dora by Wednesday 13^th March.

Flexi Eventing Action Galore at the Meadows

Once again Saturday saw a full day of action at The Meadows Equestrian Centre where, in association with Eventing Ireland (NR), they held the latest leg of their Flexi Eventing which is proving very popular. The dressage got underway just before 9am with the first of the two Pre Novice classes which resulted in the impressive ‘newcomer’ combination of Maya Boyle and her lovely bay gelding, Chinook Calibra, taking top place just ahead of Neil Morrison riding Terry Johnston’s mare, Rosie.

The Pre Novice B class was won in fine style by Hannah Blakely and Rough Terrain, who moved up one place from last week and certainly proved that they will be a force to be reckoned with when they begin their Eventing Ireland career in March.

Meantime, the Novice class, which saw victory going to Elaine O’Connor on the home bred Tullymurry Holly, was dominated by the Graham/Moore families who picked up four of the top six placings in a highly competitive class.

Suzanne Hagan repeated last week’s performance in the Intermediate class by claiming 1^st and 2^nd places.

Showjumping was also busy all day, getting underway ahead of the scheduled start time of 9.30am and continued until after 3pm. The cross country was also a hive of activity with competitors getting a double attempt through the water complex which proved extremely interesting for many of the combinations.

Due to popular demand the current series of Flexi Eventing , which is open to everyone, is being extended until Saturday 23 February with dressage entries requiring to be made with Dora (07876758979 or dorabeacom@live.co.uk) by 6pm on the Wednesday of each week. Flexi Eventing Continues at The Meadows

Due to popular demand, The Meadows Equestrian Centre, in association with Eventing Ireland (NR) are going to extend the current series of Flexi Eventing which will now run each Saturday until 23 February.

This is suitable for riders of all abilities who can choose any one, two or three of the disciplines of dressage, show jumpinging and cross country. It is open to everyone – not just eventers so why not come along and join the many others who are already enjoying this series.
Dressage must be pre-entered with Dora (07876758979 or dorabeacom@live.co.uk) by 6pm on the Wednesday of each week but showjumping and cross country entries are taken on the day.

Showjumping starts at 9.30am sharp with 70cms and 1m. The 70cms course is then raised to 80cms , followed by 90cms while the 1m progresses to 1.10m and 1.20m. Further enquiries to Patricia on 07843590193

Flexi Eventing Major Success at The Meadows

It was certainly a case of all roads leading to The Meadows on Saturday where the Lurgan Equestrian Centre was a hive of eventing activity.
With almost 100 dressage entries, the judges, Vanda Robinson, Lynsey Craig and Fiona Morrow were kept occupied until after 3pm. Meantime the showjumping got underway ahead of schedule and continued unabated until 3.30pm with the cross country running simultaneously. Once again riders were fulsome in their praise for the educational opportunities afforded by the Flexi Eventing which is open to everyone. Due to popular demand it is being extended until Saturday 23 February with dressage entries requiring to be made with Dora (07876758979 or dorabeacom@live.co.uk) by 6pm on the Wednesday of each week. Showjumping and cross country can be entered on the day.
The Meadows Equestrian Centre and Eventing Ireland(NR) are deeply indebted to all helpers: Secretary, course designer, judges, scribes, scorers, starters and arena party – your contribution to a very successful day is very much appreciated.

Eventing Ireland Northern Region Try Eventing Dates

Note from Northern Region Eventing Ireland

Northern Region is holding a series of 4 weeks Try/Flexi Eventing at The Meadows Equestrian Centre, Lurgan starting on 19 January and running each Saturday through to 9 February. This is open to members and non members.

Dressage (Pre-Novice, Novice & Intermediate) must be pre-entered with Dora (dorabeacom@live.co.uk or text to 07876758979) by the Wednesday of each week.

Showjumping (70cms – 1.20m) and cross country schooling which includes a water complex can be entered on the day.
