Walk, trot and canter into the Laurel View Winter Dressage League

A beautiful autumnal day welcomed the dressage competitors to Laurel View on the 4th October for the start of the Winter League.

As ever healthy competitive spirit was present in abundance and the walk trot class judged by Emma Hobson was no exception to this. Dan and Daline Hamilton topped her class with Archie and Samantha Hamilton only a point or two behind.

Ivor Harper watched riders step out Prelim 1 and his judging deemed Simon Wylie and Schumi to be number 1 on the day, with Alison Matthews and Tadhg getting the blue rosette here.

Ivor was also tasked with assessing the competitors in class 3, putting their best foot forward in the Prelim 4 test. A red ribbon went home with a very pleased Diane Jones and JJ, while Sophie Winn and Wizard of Oz were delighted to receive the blue one in such a strong class.

David Patterson was the man with the coldest seat while he was in the hot spot as judge for the classes outdoors! Daryl McKinney and Ballylin Ben scored highest riding Prelim 13 while Tara Murphy and Tick It took the second place position.

Daline Hamilton on Dan win the walk trot class – Photo by Equi-Tog

In the Novice class David’s judging placed Ballylin Ben and Darryl McKinney first again, with Beechmount Baxter and Linda McIlwaine runner up this time round.

Last class of the day for David was the Open class and here the red ribbon was earned by Penny Murphy and Tick It for their Elementary test. Furisto Seven for a Secret and Jill Hobson also riding the Elementary test took home the runners up ribbon.

A splendid day of dressage captured by the Equi-Tog photographer and Laurel View look forward to more of the same at the second leg of the Winter Dressage League on Sunday 15th November.
It has become the Laurel View custom to turn over a show to charity each year, in 2015, the charity to benefit on 24th May was Childreach International. Laurel View chose to support the work of this charity as Laurel View team member Katie Watt is participating a project with them later this summer.

Penny Murphy and Tick – It take first place in the Novice class – Photo by Equi-Tog

Aside from the charity, prize winning competitors benefitted considerably from the prizes supplied by the shows sponsors.

Natasha Lowry and Laurel View Jonathan were astounded to hear they had won the walk/trot class judged by Amy Neill, just a collection point or so ahead of Truly and Jackie Hanna.

Just Jake and Holly Reilly were pleased as punch to come top of the newcomers class. Second to them as judged by Laurel Faloona was Debbie McAlister and Inch by Inch.

A win for William and Shelley McFarlane in Prelim 7 – Photo by Equi-Tog

Ivor Harper judged Prelim 7 and found William and Shelley McFarlane to be top of the large class, just ahead of Claire Robinson and Magic.

Emma Andrews placed Limelight Lexington and Lynsey Craig in the limelight for Class 4. In this class the blue ribbon went to Brad and Joanne McSeveney.

Newcomers first place for Holly Reilly and Just Jake – Photo by Equi-Tog

Emma also judged Novice 24 and awarded first place to Penny Murphy on Tick-It, with the blue ribbon this time for Lynsey Craig and Limelight Lexington.

The Open Class gave judge Joan Adrain plenty of variety to assess, but when the scores were totted up first went to Kilminchy Condor and Lucca Stubington for their Novice test, with Penny Murphy and Tick-Its earning a high scoring second.

Last judging task of the day was also left to Joan Adrain, the Dressage to Music class which had also attracted a good number of entries. A very supportive crowd looked on while the class took place and seemed to concur with the judges conclusions when Margie Mac and Erin Faloona were named winners and Kirsty Marsden and Loughmourne Diamond the very worthy runners up.

As always the Equi-Tog photographer was kept very busy trying to capture competitors at their best, to see if they got your best angle email them at info@equi-tog.com

Kilminchy Condor and Lucca Stubington step into first in the Open – Photo by Equi-Tog

Thanks to all the competitors for coming along and making the work of the Laurel View team worthwhile. Gratitude also has been expressed to all the judges and scribes for giving their time so generously.

Show organiser Katie Watt and more importantly the prize winners would like to say a massive thank you to sponsors Bluegrass, Botanica, Equi-Tog, NAF and Old Mill for their generous support and fabulous prizes making winning the competition much more worthwhile.

No special prizes at the next leg in the Summer Dressage League, but hopefully it will be equally well supported on Sunday 21st June. Full schedule and entry details are available at www.laurelview.co.uk or just call the office on 028 9083 0649.

Dressage competitors should be greatly commended for their dedication turning out in strength for competition at Laurel View even on a most bleak winter’s day like the 11th January.

Rab and Sarah Saied are looking pleased with their finish

The judges and scribes should be praised also for managing to keep going despite the dismal conditions, it’s wonderful how motivational a cup or two of Robert’s soup can prove to be. This recipe helps to keep the Laurel View team running too.

Ivor Harper had two classes to judge in the relative warmth of the smaller indoor. Diane Jones and JJ earned themselves another red rosette for riding BD Intro A in Class 1, while Ballyrock Harvey and Lisa Stewart were only a shade behind in an equally superb test.

“William” and Shelley McFarlane ride into first place of Class 3

Laurel View Rab and Sarah Saied impressed him most in the Newcomers class, with Zena Martin and Inishcara justifiably pleased with their blue rosette for Prelim 4.

Diane Jones and “JJ” come out on top of the walk trot test

Lynsey Craig was in the judge’s seat for Class 3 competitors riding Prelim 12. Her top spot went to Shelley McFarlane and William, with Nicola Dunseith and Amber not quite getting the red.

Judge for Class 4 and the Prelim 18 test was Emma Andrews, her namesake Emma Hobson and Rolando took the red ribbon, while Leah Knight’s test on Ollie earned them the blue.

Nicola Dunseith and Amber take 2nd in Class 3

Geraldine Lowry was set up for a busy afternoon, first she accepted the task of judging the Novice class, with Joanne Jarden and Drunken Relation ending up the clear winners, with Margie Mac and Erin Faloona taking second with another excellent test ridden.

After the Novice class Geraldine Lowry donned her riding gear and warmed up Ringfort Nimmerdino to go on to win both 1st and 2nd in the Open class, judged by Angelene Nicholson, definitely a good day at the office for Geraldine.

The Equi-Tog photographer was clicking away mainly in the indoor arena at this competition due to the poor natural light outside, to see photos recorded email info@equi-tog.com

The February dressage competition is on the calendar for the 8th February with the March date to note being the 29th. Check out the full schedule at www.laurelview.co.uk

The Laurel View Winter Dressage League got off to an excellent start on Sunday 12th October, for Jenny Beggs in particular when she took home not one but two rosettes in the Newcomers class.

JJ and Diane Jones were in top form when Laurel Faloonas scoring placed them top of the walk trot class. Chelsea Topping and Oliver Twist weren’t far behind in second place.

Newcomers rode in front of Amy Neill and it was in this class that Jenny Beggs secured both first and second place with Guinness and Mags respectively, definitely a good day at the office for Jenny.

Darryl McKinney and Ballylin Ben tops Prelim 4 Photo Equi-Tog

Darryl McKinney on Ballylin Ben caught the eye of Judge Martina McKinley riding the Prelim 4 test, with Shauna O’Connell and Hollymeadow Star securing second place honours.

Sophie Winn and Wizard of Oz scored a magic 80.42 for their Prelim 13 test judged by Lucy Webb. In this class Ballylin Ben and Darryl McKinney took home the blue rosette.

Lucy Webb was still in the judges chair for Class 5 competitors riding Novice 28, top of the class was awarded to Leah Knight and Milo. Erin Faloona riding Margie Mac and Linda McIlwaine with Beechmount Baxter couldn’t be separated tying for second.

Guinness is good for Jenny Beggs Photo Equi-Tog

Onto the Open class and Angelene Nicholson took the judges position. Her red rosette was awarded to Penny Murphy and Tick It for their Novice test, while Geraldine Lowry’s Para Team test on Ringfort Nimmerdino earned them the second place spot.

Another super day of dressage at Laurel View, made possible by a great team of judges, scribes, staff and helpers, but it would all be pointless without the competitors who come from near and far to make it all worthwhile. Competitors can check out how good they looked by emailing info@equi-tog.com

The next leg takes place on Sunday 9th November with classes to suit all as usual which can be viewed at www.laurelview.co.uk entries open up to noon on Thursday 6th November.

The 13th July proved to be a lovely day for the third leg of the Laurel View Summer Dressage League, with entries from the extremities of Ulster.

After Ivor Harpers Intro B Test results were announced, to say that Diane Jones was delighted would be an understatement when she and JJ won first place in their first dressage test together. Jill Hobson surprised herself when she and Fifi earned second having only ridden Fifi a couple of times before the test.

Lynsey Craig deemed Caroline Chambers on Villa’s Dream to be the top newcomers test. The reserve position went to Lauren Hill on Ajay. The test to test the newcomers was Prelim 7.

Prelim 13 was judged by Claire Sedgeman and when the scores were added up it was Jennifer McCann and Oakhill Charm that was in the number 1 spot. Darryl McKinney and Ballylin Ben weren’t very far behind in second place.

Top of Class 4 for Shelley McFarland and “William”

Will McAuley had the task of judging the very strong Prelim 18 class and topping the scoreboard was Shelley McFarlane on William. Jennifer McCann and Oakhill Charm picked up the runners up rosette for this class.

Novice 30 was judged by Yvette Truesdale and her number one test was awarded to Amy Neill and Wills, with Erin Faloona and Supreme Judge a very worthy second.

Yvette kept the judges chair for the Open Class and had the task of scoring 6 further tests, the class was ultimately won by Martina McKinley and Oliver Hardy riding the Novice test option, with the blue rosette going home with Louise McFarlane on Balora also for their performance of the Novice test.

The Open test rounded up another great day of dressage at Laurel View, with thanks being extended to all concerned. For those wanting to record their test for posterity email info@equi-tog.com to see how they have captured your performance.
