IRELAND was one of five teams of the nine starters who finished the first round of the Children on Horses Nations’ Cup in Hagen Germany on a zero score today (Thursday), with six nations going through to the second round.

However, a mammoth battle for superiority then followed amongst the qualifiers, with a high attrition rate as fences fell for almost every nation.

At the close, Italy and the Netherlands emerged as the leaders, both showing a four-fault total over two rounds, and in the subsequent jump-off Italy took the Cup on time.

Ireland finished sixth overall, with 20 faults on the board, and the Irish scores were:
Harry Allen/Wild Thing L 0/4
Abby Morton/Patch Mills Laura 0/12
Killian Ryan/Boomerang Breeze (ISH) 14/4
Emilie Larkin/Flexing (ISH) 0/12.

Chef d’Equipe for the Irish team was Comdt. John Ledingham.

The 2nd International Official Show Jumping will be held at the International Horse Center of Deauville (Normandy, France) from 22 to 25 May. 150 riders aged 12 to 21 years (categories Children, Juniors and Young Riders *) will get a chance to compete in the venue a few months before their elders. These four days of competition will be punctuated by three team events – called Nations Cup – and three individual Grand Prix. It is the only International Young Rider event of its kind to be held in France. For the second time in a row, Deauville has been chosen to welcome Children, Juniors and Young Riders.

Already champions

If they start early riding horses, children can learn the hard law of sport, but also quickly the joy of medals. Among the show jumping ”starlets” a young French girl has already made a name for herself: Camille Conde-Ferreira. Vice-World Children Champion, Team Gold and individual Bronze medalist at European Championships for Children, she already displays, at only 15 years, an amazing hit list! 3rd in the Nations Cup of Deauville last year, 7th in the Grand Prix, she’s returning this year with the intention to stand out further. After several years in Children and ponies, Camille will ride in Deauville his first Junior Nations Cup.

On the visitors’ side, Deauville is proud to welcome two great champions: Lisa Nooren (NED), bronze individual and team medalist at the European Junior Championships 2013, and Laëtitia du Couëdic (SUI), the current Swiss National JuniorChampion.

A solidarity event

As part of the annual partnership between the International Horse Center of Deauville and the humanitarian organization JustWorld international, activities will take place during the event. Friday late afternoon, the riders and their families will be offered equestrian ’Olympiads’ – gymkhana, skill game, race – where teams of a rider in each age category will compete but … this time on foot! The registration fee will be donated to the charity, working for a decade with poor children.

The association is represented by more than 500 rider ambassadors around the world, and some of them will be in Deauville, such as Laëtitia du Couëdic (SUI), Lisa Nooren (NED) and Damien de Chambord (FRA).
