Following a successful launch as a celebration of 2012 as an Olympic year, British Eventing supported by our friends at HorseHub are again offering promising film-makers the chance to enter a competition to win £1000 worth of photographic equipment.

The objective of the competition is for fans of the sport to capture the spirit of Eventing, be it with high octane cross country action, behind the scenes footage, or savouring the elegance of the dressage phase.

A keen follower of the sport is James Hustler from Norfolk who won the inaugural competition in 2012: “Freshly graduated from university, the BE Eventing Cinema competition was an excellent opportunity and offered a very generous prize which really helped me kick start my career as a freelance videographer.

“A year on I owe a lot to the competition and would highly recommend equestrian lovers and non-riders alike give it a shot.” View James’ fantastic winning entry on the Eventing Cinema webpage <hyperlink to www.britisheventing.com/eventingcinema>

Rising British star Laura Collett is new to the panel of judges this year, joining former Badminton winner and HorseHub representative Paul Tapner and BE’s Chief Executive and International Course Designer, Mike Etherington-Smith plus County Down man Liam Killen from the Equestrian Social Media Awards and the Equestrian Creative Network. Liam said: “I was blown away by the standard of last year’s entries from across the globe. They succeeded in capturing the adrenaline, precision and teamwork on show in a truly creative fashion. I can’t wait to see what 2013′s entrants create!”
Entries close on the 16th September 2013. Full competition details, term and conditions can be found on www.britisheventing.com/eventingcinema

EACH year British Eventing produces rankings of the leading sires of young event horses competing in the UK. This year Irish-based stallions dominated the young horse sire rankings. The rankings, which were published on the British Eventing website in November, show that 15 of the top 20 stallions of four to eight year old event horses in the UK are those currently standing, or who previously stood, in Ireland. Ghareeb (TB), who unfortunately passed away recently, is the highest ranked Irish-based stallion in the rankings, lying in fourth place.

Horse Sport Ireland Chairman Joe Walsh said “the Irish Sport Horse Studbook is currently the leading Studbook in the world for eventing with Mr Medicott (ISH) the number one event horse in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) rankings for 2012. At the London Olympic Games thirteen Irish Sport Horses represented seven different nations in eventing with four of these recording top ten finishes.

The recently published British Eventing sire rankings of young horses highlight the dominance of Irish-based stallion’s progeny in eventing with 15 of the top 20 sires being Irish based. This, in addition to the thirty-one Irish Sport Horses selected for the FEI World Breeding Championships for Young Event Horses at Le Lion d’Angers in France this October, would indicate that this positive trend is set to continue.”
