Barclay Communications supports local lad as he aims for double gold in Europe and sets sights on 2016 Olympics.
County Antrim’s Harold Megahey has made the Irish Junior Eventing team for a second year in a row and is now preparing to fight for Gold at the FEI European Eventing Championships for Young Riders and Juniors in France, with his grey gelding Chuckelberry.
Proudly support by local business communications company, Barclay Communications, Harold will return to the European Championships on the 12th of September to compete for three days, against nineteen other countries as he attempts to surpass his 2012 team Silver and individual Bronze medals.
At eighteen years old, this is Harold’s last year in the junior eventing field, but he has big ambitions for his senior eventing career and has already set his sights on the 2016 Olympics.
Harold Megahey explains, “Over the next three years we are focusing on Rio. I have just completed my A-Levels and can now concentrate on building myself and the horses into real Olympic contenders.”
Barclay Communications have been supporting Harold since 2010 and after he achieved the only Irish individual medal at last years’ European Championships, they have also committed to supporting him along his Olympic journey.
Chuckelberry, Harold’s fourteen year old European ride first boosted his performance on the Irish eventing scene last year, and they’ve continued to make a formidable team with a recent win at Ballindenisk International and high positions in Camphire and Tyrella.
Sourced from Ireland’s 2012 Olympic rider Joseph Murphy, Chuckelberry has also been competed by Olympic medal-winning William Fox-Pit and Mark Todd. However he isn’t Harold’s only potential Olympic ride, with at least one other prospect in the wings Harold and his horses are the ones to watch on the eventing circuit over the next few years.

On Friday 31st of May Barclay Communications raised over seven thousand pounds for the Jonjo Bright Trust at the tenth annual Barclay Communications’ Race Evening.

The Jonjo Bright Trust was set up when 19 year old aspiring amateur jockey, Jonjo Bright was left paralysed after a point-to-point fall on the 2nd March 2013.

To support the Trust the local business mobile, landline, IT, app and web design company organised charity collections, a raffle and auction at their biggest event of the year, which was held at Down Royal Racecourse.

Britt Megahey, Managing Director of Barclay Communications explains why supporting the Trust was so important to them, “We were all shocked when we heard what happened to local jockey Jonjo Bright, as keen horse enthusiasts ourselves we were strongly drawn to the Trust and everything we raised will go towards helping Jonjo live the most independent life possible.”

Attended by over 3,500 race goers and influential Northern Ireland business people the Jonjo Bright Trust was a cause close to the heart of everyone who attended the Barclay Communications’ Race Evening, from general race goers to jockeys and owners.

Barclays’ private suite also played host to 500 top guests including Dennisons Commercials, Bryson House, Tughans, Value Cabs, O2 and Nokia, to name a few.

Robert and Kerry Patton, Jonjos Uncle and Aunt from Old Mill Saddlery

Laying on the VIP treatment, Barclay Communications pampered their guests with dinner, Champagne, massages, a caricaturist, live music, as well as a top racing spectacle.

The suite also raffled off a table of ten for Down Royal’s September race evening, which was drawn by Jonjo’s father, John Bright.

Raffle winner, Avril Knipe then kindly donated the prize for auction, which went for £2,700 to the successful highest bidder Richard Watson, bringing the total amount raised at the event to £7,262.18.
