The popular working hunter league is nearing completion with the final leg of qualifying taking place last Sunday at Omagh RDA centre, Arvalee. Again over 70 entrants attended the competition, many of which collecting the coveted Northern Ireland Festival qualification cards.

The judges had many tough decisions to make when deciding on their class winners. Judge Catherine Abbott, had the tough job of deciding winners in the pony classes. In the pony championship class, it was local rider Jennifer Torrens, with her chestnut gelding Trooper that took home the Pony Champion rosette, reserve champion was awarded to yet another local rider, Brandon Deane with his chestnut pony, Brook.

For the afternoon, local judge Anne Torrens was on hand to officiate over the horses. Providing expert feedback to many of our competitors, many riders were very appreciative to receive Anne’s constructive feedback to improve before the final.

Local rider Diane Atcheson was once more on top form with wins in both the 90cms and 1m classes. Diane’s run of good fortune continued into the horse championship where she picked up the honours with Echoes of Time. Reserve champion was awarded to Declan Lynch and his gelding Ardnaglass Jack.

With the final now on 31st March and with a total prize fund in excess of £700, the league prize money and rosettes will be a tightly fought contest in all classes, with no outright winners at this stage.
