All the boxes were ticked at Ravensdale Lodge as the centre commenced shows for the 2015 winter / spring indoor season last week. All equestrian disciplines were covered with everyone’s tastes being catered for from show jumping & arena eventing to dressage. Indoor show jumping commenced in the form of horse training on Thursday with many riders opting for the training route in advance of the SJI registered leagues which commence at Ravensdale Lodge with two Sunday shows on February 1st & 8th before returning to their usual Thursday slot on February 15th.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-723101" alt="Vicky Campbell from Rostrevor finished with a fine score of 70.19% on Dennis The Menace in her first novice test at Ravensdale Lodge's indoor dressage league on Sunday. There are seven classes from X poles to 1.10m and a start time of 5.30pm. Indoor arena eventing commenced on Saturday with this league running weekly with the exception of Saturday 14th February to 25th April. There is a start time of 2pm for the 70cm class which will be followed by the 85cm class at 3pm and the 1m class at 4pm.
Week ending 2nd November 2014, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre.

There was great excitement at Ravensdale Lodge on Sunday 26th October as the centre played host to its annual Bumper Halloween show. The mild weather did not deter the yearly emergence of ghouls and ghosts as a frightful mob descended on the centre like a scene from the “thriller” video! As heart rates returned to normal and competitors settled down after the initial fright the competition began and the Halloween spirit remained for the duration of the show as combinations went like “bats out of hell” to get their hands on some of the wonderful prizes on offer. Business got underway with the X poles class which was won by Lucy Bell riding Chico, second and third place were picked up by Ravensdale regulars Dearbhla Mc Gahan riding her own Giggles and Kier Gordon riding Taffy. Linda Mc Keown of Makins Horse Feeds, one of the sponsors on the day got her day off to a good start as she watched Molly Mc Goran jump her horse Holly into first place in the 60cm class. Gemma Murphy riding Silverline Lily was second while Alexandra Lee came home third in the class with Sammy. The Haire & Reel families dominated the 70cm class with Katie Haire coming home first on Thunder while brother Ally rode the same horse to take second place in the class. Erinn Reel finished third in the 70cm class with Fudge while Mum Edel slotted into fourth on her own Robin Hood. Katie O’ Hare was lucky enough to be on holiday for the mid-term break so good Pal Vicky Campbell from Rostrevor took the ride on Blaney’s Boy for her and picked up first place in the 80cm class for her efforts. To top things off, Vicky picked up third place in the 80cm class with her own Dennis The Menace while Harry Haire added to the families trawl of prizes by slotting into second place in the class and winning a nice Ravensdale Lodge saddle pad for his efforts. The next two classes, the 90cm & 1m classes belonged to talented young rider, Orla Mc Gowan as she won both classes on hers lovely grey gelding Manus Boy. Linda Mc Keown piloted her own Branchfield Boy this time to take second in the 90cm class while Harry Haire was on hand again to take third place with Gunner. Second in the 1m class went to Jenny Mc Leigh with Kerry while Michael Graham slotted into third place with A matter of fact. All in all it was great day of fun filled competition with a treasure trove of prizes which included signature Ravensdale Lodge rugs and saddle pads, Horse First & Botanica International product bags as well as vouchers from Mackins Horse Feeds and prizes from Moorhill Saddlery. There were spot prizes given out for the most “spooktacular” fancy dress outfits which were plentiful on the day. It was the last but one “Bumper Bank Holiday” show of the year at Ravensdale Lodge with the final one set to be held over the Christmas period, details to follow.

Week ending 26th October, results Ravensdale Lodge Equestrian & Event Centre

It could only be described as a giveaway three days at Ravensdale Lodge as the centre celebrated a bumper bonus bank holiday weekend. There were eight signature Ravensdale Lodge rugs, eight Ravensdale Lodge saddle pads, fourteen Botanica International bags, fourteen Horse First bags, fourteen Mackins Horse feeds vouchers, seven Moorhill Saddlery prizes, seven trophies, rosettes and enough sweets to fill a shop given out over the three days. As if that were not enough there were bonus points awarded towards the “Smart Leagues” initiative at Friday evenings Botanica International indoor horse & pony training league and Saturday afternoon’s Horse First indoor arena eventing league. Sunday 26th October saw the last but one of the popular “Bumper” bank holiday shows run at Ravensdale Lodge with big numbers turning out for this Halloween event. There were seven classes from X poles to 1.10m on the day, all of which were timed thus ensuring some tight turns and competitive action against the clock. Results from this and all other weekly shows can be viewed below or on the centres website, a full show report will follow next week.

Competitions settle back to normal next week with SJI registered indoor show jumping for horses on Thursday. There are six modified classes from 80cm to 1.30m and a start time of 11am. Botanica International sponsor the indoor horse & pony training league which takes place on Friday evening from 5.30pm with classes from X poles to 1.10m. There are some great weekly class prizes of Botanica product on offer at this show as well as points towards the league. Saturday afternoon sees the continuation of the Horse First indoor arena eventing league which has a start time of 2pm for the 70cm class, 3pm for the 85cm class and 4pm for the 1m class. Horse First sponsor the weekly product prizes for all classes and once again there are points to be gained towards overall league standings. Both Friday evening’s and Saturday afternoon’s shows are part of the “Smart Leagues” initiative which is now in its second year at Ravensdale Lodge. As well as the fantastic array of prizes on offer for league and final winners there are some super smart hi-tech tablets to be given away at the end of this indoor series in December. Everyone who enters these two league will be in with a chance of winning one of these must have gadgets as a draw will be made on the final night. The facilities and courses at Ravensdale Lodge are available to hire for anyone who cannot attend these shows or who might have a young / inexperienced animal to school.
