Cavan’s JUNE PERFORMANCE SALE of HORSES & PONIES takes place on Tuesday 22^nd June.  This sale has a quality and a varied selection catalogued and is sure to get the summer sale season off to an excellent start.  The sale will run in the usual order starting the day with ponies and then moving to horses.  With over 80 ponies, 70 six year olds and upwards and 55 five year old, four year old and three year old horses there is surely the perfect mount to be found for the canny buyer!

This is a fantastic time to purchase that much wanted pony and with the season just being under way there is plenty of time to show it some action.  Out of the fantastic assortment of ponies on offer it will be possible to handpick the right one for you.  In the selection of 128cms, 138cms and 148cms you can find Connemara ponies, Grade A & B ponies and many of these come with showjumping, eventing and hunting experience.  If you are the type who likes a challenge it is also possible to acquire young ponies.

The horse section offers an excellent selection of experienced horses many with years of work under saddle right through to unbroken horses and as you would expect the progeny of many famous sires are catalogued including ARS Vivendi, Chacoa, Hermes de Reve, Mermus R, OBOS Quality, Ricardo Z and many more.

All entries catalogued for this sale will be performing before going into the sales ring – either being ridden or lunged over a set of poles and all are proven or potential showjumpers, eventers, hunting, dressage or pleasure riding animals. Veterinary certificates and vendor warranties are submitted with each horse and pony offered for sale and can be viewed in the secretary’s office. This ensures that all animals are fit for sale and as an additional reassurance, re-vetting facilities are on site.

Viewing for these sales commences each day at 9.00am with the sale commencing at 10.00am.

Lot 44 – €4,200

Cavan Equestrian Centre’s Performance Horse & Pony sale on Tuesday 16^th June saw a very lively sale and with a definite rise upward in demand which is surely a welcome picture for the future!

Many overseas buyers including Sweden, Belgium, France, England and Scotland along with the many home grown buyers from North and South helped to achieve a fantastic 77% clearance.  Many regular buyers were in attendance and it was encouraging to see the many new visitors who all had an enjoyable experience.

The very practical and useful bonus of a half tonne of Horse Feed which is sponsored by GAIN which is highly regarded by horse and pony owners alike went to Kennedy Brothers Sporthorses, Co. Limerick for the highest priced horse and Brian Morgan, Co. Clare for the highest priced pony.

Cavan Horse Sales next sale is in August which is an International Performance and Premier 3 Year Old Sale. Lot 95 – €4,500

The Cavan International Horse & Pony April Sale on Tuesday 21^st & Wednesday 22^nd experienced an unprecedented 82% clearance rate and surely shows evidence that the ‘buyer is back in the market’

The sales were very brisk with bids coming fast and furious and with many animals changing hands at a very speedy pace.  As soon as the Lots entered the sales ring it seemed the many punters were ready to start making their bids before the Lot could make its first circuit around the ring.

Lot136A – €6,300

A strong European influence was in attendance with buyers from Sweden, Belgium and France who battled with formidable clients from Scotland, England, Wales and of course the homegrown buyer was also extremely well represented.

Photos and videos were definitely an advantage in selling some of these Lots as potential purchasers had a chance to view them before coming and all agreed that it would be very helpful if more vendors were to take advantage of this.

The hospital is located within the grounds of the old Greenmount Stud and the facility has been reinvigorated to create a centre of excellence for equine care. Offering a wide range of services including neo-natal critical care, lameness/poor performance investigations, reproductive services and with a fully equipped surgical facility we will be able to cater for your horse’s every need.

Greenmount Equine Hospital is headed up by Donncha Houlihan MVB MRCVS and Paul Houlihan MVB MRCVS. Both brothers are originally from Birdhill, Co. Tipperary and look forward to offering their combined experience to owners, trainers and breeders in the surrounding areas.

The speakers include Louise Broom, who specialises in physiotherapy, rehabilitation and performance analysis for riders of all disciplines, Clare Maria Campbell who is an Equine Physiotherapist will discuss how rider asymmetry affects the horse’s performance and International Dressage rider Yvette Truesdale will discuss exercises to improve straightness and balance of both horse and rider. Robert Patton, Master Saddle fitter, will also address how correct saddle fitting can improve the rider’s position. There will be lots of opportunity for discussion and questions with these top level speakers.

The workshop will cost £10, which can be paid on the day and will run from 11am to 4pm. For groups of 10 or more people booking places in advance there is a reduced cost of £5 per person payable at the door.  This offer can only be honoured to those pre-booking their place via email.  Please bring a chair to sit in the arena.
